On our first morning in Prague, we stumbled bleary eyed downstairs to the breakfasting area of the hotel to be greeted by a whole host of weird stuff! I began eating what looked like museli only to find out that it was the most horrible thing I'd ever eaten! I finally opted for Poached Eggs - which I ended up eating all week!
After that we departed to the Old Town Square, which is beautiful and very VERY touristy - and set about finding the amazing and very impressive Clock which resides on the Old Town Hall. Which had a massive sign up on it saying 'Closed for renovation 1.9.05 - 01.11.05'. Just my luck. We were 12 days too late! Anyone who's ever been to Prague or heard about it will know that this clock is one of the main features or tourist events of the city!
So, will little left to see in the Old Town, we headed off in search of the Old Jewish Quarter. Instead we ended up at Charles Bridge - I have great Map reading skills! This was the first of many times we got lost in Prague - but in my defence I will add that there are tons of tiny little streets to get lost in - it's like a city full of Brighton laines! Eventually - after Jake made me have my picture taken on Charles Bridge, we found the Jewish Quarter. And found the oldest Synagogue in Europe. It cost 400 czk for us to both get in - and although this thing was built in 1234 or whatever - it really wasn't worth it. First, it was the smallest attraction I've ever paid to go to - and most attractions in Prague only cost about 50 czk to go in - that's just over a pound. Secondly, they yelled at Jake for not putting on his yamacka - the little Jewish hat - which made me sad.![]()
After that we were feeling a little stung so we decided not to go into the old Jewish cemetary and instead starting walking down the very fashionable area of Prague. Very large pictures of Uma Thurman look down at you from Louis Vuitton - there's none of Kate Moss though...
Startlingly we ended up back in the Old Town sqaure and realised that we could have just walked much quicker and more directly to the Jewish Quarter without getting lost, but hey - where's the adventure there? This was the cool part - we sat down for a beer in the nice area next to the Old Town Hall - the only thing that wasn't nice was the price - it was nearly double the price to what we paid the night before!
That evening we went to the Ice Hockey! It is an absolutely wicked sport - and I wanna go again! We watched Sparta Praha (Of which there is a football team too) vs. K Vary (which is just north of Prague). It was so much fun - and we met these Americans who were visiting Prague as part of their college life - for four months - so they knew how to pay and stuff. They made it even more fun than it already was too. Sparta won 6-4 woohoo! Even though for a lot of the game it looked like they would lose! A guy called Roman who looked a lot like Ian scored a lot of goals, and then proceeded in the final third to have a massive fight with a K Vary man. It was brilliant! Armour flying off everywhere!
So that was my second day in Prague!
